What is it…?
Zappsie is a cloud based internet connection monitoring solution.
Zappsie is software and hardware that monitors numerous parameters to determine the integrity of your internet connection. Zappsie uses an email notification system that allows users to receive e-mail based alerts related to connectivity events. This enables end users to react faster to problems. The companion web based cloud interface also offers excellent data visualization features based on time series data collected by the Zappsie node.
All Zappsie statistics, as well as configuration parameters, are accessed through a web-based frontend. The cloud interface ensures that the status of your network connection can be assessed from any location.
What it does…
The Zappsie node monitor alerts you to failures in your internet connection and graphs the time and length of those failures. This graphing feature can help you and your provider troubleshoot the problem – after it helps you convince them it’s not your imagination! The Zappsie node is designed to be as simple as possible and accomplish this one purpose accurately and thoroughly with the least effort from you.
How it works…
Zappsie Node Monitor uses the “Ping” command (among other methods) to test the response from three public servers operated by Google, Facebook, and OpenDNS. (“What’s a Ping?” See below for an explanation.) Each server is pinged in turn at 60 second intervals.
Zappsie maintains constant communication with your cloud server; if the server responds, Zappsie waits till the next interval. If the server doesn’t respond, Zappsie immediately tries the cloud server again. If doesn’t not respond on the second interval then your connection must be down.
Your cloud server is maintained in a high availability data center, a false positive event would be rare. In the case where a questionable event occurs the three public server’s response time can be verified in the cloud interface.
